about sara kiyo popowa

My journey as a yoga teacher is new but my journey with yoga and embodied practises is not. Born a mix of many cultures, I left the small Swedish town where I grew up to study in Japan and travel Asia, eventually landing in London after many psychedelic, dance-fulled experiences.I soon found myself in a sweaty, carpeted room in north London at my first hot yoga class (Bikram, now known as Fierce Grace) and fell hard for the intensity of the practice and how it rapidly sharpened my focus and changed how I felt in my body. I kept going in and out of the practice in the years following, always finding my way back.
I went on to do a degree in Dance and Visual Art at Brighton University, turning to performance art and training in butoh and physical theatre all whilst getting involved with the alternative food and festival movement. For a few years I was designing for health food brands and deepening my understanding of how the way we eat affects our bodies and minds (and our environment!).Eventually the two loves of mine, food and art, merged in the birth of my Instagram Shiso Delicious. After a hiatus I came back to yoga just before the pandemic, starting a daily practice which took me through a period of huge personal and professional change and growth.I completed my first 200 hour vinyasa teacher training in 2024, London, with Marcus Veda and Hannah Whittingham, Good Life Yoga School.I LOVE teaching and sharing the practice that supports me and the life I want to lead, every day.
4BeatMy first 200 hour training were taught to the beat, 4Beat - a dynamic vinyasa founded by Marcus Veda and born out of the Rocket Yoga system and I have since completed with an additional 50hr 4Beat TT.4Beat focuses on the breath, synching breath and movements to a steady 4:4 soundtrack - inhale on the beat for 4, exhale for 4. This way you can always find your way back to your breath, making for a meditative experience of a physically strong class.See you on a mat out there!Sara x
